NAWBO-BRC Tidbits - March

Welcome! To NAWBO Tidbits, that monthly email filled with good news and good-to-know information to brighten your day and enhance your business.

To have your news appear in NAWBO Tidbits, please send a short description to info@nawbomaryland.org or
Peg@WordLens.com.

From the President

What can NAWBO do for you? On Monday night, March 19, find out how to leverage your membership in NAWBO to grow your business and bring you recognition. Our speaker, Shawn Taylor Zelman, is a senior director for the National office of NAWBO. This points out one advantage NAWBO gives you that unaffiliated local networking and professional groups simply cannot match – the strength and resources of a strong national organization to stand behind the local chapters. Check out National's website periodically for news and information that can help you and your business thrive.

What can NAWBO do for you? It provides opportunities to develop and practice your leadership skills. There are Board positions open for the 2007-2008 year, including a new at-large position. When you invest your time and share your talents, serving on the NAWBO board gives you the satisfaction of helping to shape a rich and rewarding experience for your fellow members through our monthly meetings, educational seminars, awards, and other programs. Your NAWBO board experience can be parlayed into service on other local boards, or to positions on the NAWBO national board and committees. Just look at our immediate past president, Deborah Stallings, who is on the national Diversity and Market Development forum. If you don't think you are ready for a Board position yet, get your feet wet by volunteering to work on a committee – Programming, PR, Scholarship, Public Policy, and Membership can always use your help.

What can NAWBO do for you? It rewards excellence in entrepreneurship and brings you into contact with people with power. On Monday, April 23, NAWBO will honor two of our own as Businesswoman of the Year and Rookie of the Year. This event will take place at the Mansion House at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. Applications are available on our website for both these awards. You may nominate another member, but self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. Our keynote speaker for this event is Judge Catherine (Katie) O'Malley, the First Lady of Maryland, and our MC is Marianne Bannister of WBAL news. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your business by becoming an event sponsor. You will be receiving a packet of information in the mail shortly containing information about sponsorship levels, program ads, and contributions to the Silent Auction to benefit the scholarship fund. Plan now to be part of this special night.

What can you do for NAWBO? Participate, volunteer, attend meetings, and encourage other women to join. You must work at your business to make it grow, and NAWBO is another tool you can use to achieve success. You must work at your NAWBO membership to make it pay dividends. March is our big membership drive, with incentives for new members as well as referring members. See the article below which describes those incentives, and also a new/prospective member wine & cheese to be held on Monday evening, March 26.
All the best,
Anne
